VW Service FAQs

Why Does My VW Need an Oil Change?
Oil is a lubricant and cooling agent that ensures that the moving parts in your engine move efficiently. It even helps clean the parts. However, over time, the oil becomes dirty and less effective and eventually requires a change.
How Long Does My VW Oil Last?
Since Volkswagen vehicles take synthetic oil, you’re looking at an oil change every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. You’ll want to keep track of your last oil change and your odometer mileage to be sure that you’re getting your oil changed at the right time.
What Type of Oil Does My VW Take?
Most Volkswagen models require either VW 502 00 oil, or VW 507 00 oil. Be sure to check your owner’s manual for the proper type and viscosity for a more accurate answer.
Why Do I Need a Tire Rotation?
Tire rotations are a simple service that helps you get more out of your tires. Since their function causes them to wear out over the miles, they’re repositioned on the vehicle to even out the wear due to the weight distribution of the front and rear of the vehicle. This helps you get as many miles as possible out of your tires.
How to Check Tire Tread
Even if you keep up with routine tire maintenance, your tires can still experience wear and tear from lots of traveling, road exposure, and even weather. Tires are a vital part of your vehicle. If your tires begin to bald, it can be much harder to stay grounded especially on wet or icy roads.
Checking your tire tread for balding is easier than you might think. All you need for testing out your tires is a penny. This penny test helps you measure how worn down your tires are. Once you place the penny into the first couple grooves across the tire, examine where Lincoln’s head is located on the coin.
If you see that part of Lincoln’s head is not covered by the tire tread, this means that you have 2/32” or less remaining on your tires, a sign that you will need new tires. If Lincoln’s head is only slightly covered up, this means you have around 4/32”, which means your tires are still okay, but may need to be replaced in the near future.
If your tires don’t pass the penny test, you will most likely need new tires immediately. Swap out your old treads for new at our tire service center. We offer a wide selection of affordable brand name tires that will work to keep your vehicle running safely for many more miles to come!
What Does this Dashboard Light Mean?
There are plenty of dashboard lights that can appear. Your vehicle’s on-board diagnostic system can detect a malfunction and provide a visual warning, so you can plan ahead and schedule service to get the issue corrected. If you need to know the specific meaning of the light, you can refer to our VW Dashboard Light Guides, which are broken down by model for more accurate descriptions.
How Do I Know When It’s Time for Service?
Keeping an eye out and noticing when something is off with your vehicle or its performance can be a strong indicator that something is amiss. Of course, following your VW model’s Maintenance Schedule can help you know what services you need, and when you’ll need to have them performed.
