What are My Dashboard Lights?
Have you seen a dashboard symbol appear? You want to know what it means and what you should do as your next course of action.
This guide will help you get an understanding of what some of these symbols mean and what you should do. Let’s dive in!
Check Engine Light – You may already be familiar with this light, but it’s important to be on the lookout for it if something is wrong. This light will display as an indicator that there is a malfunction with the engine or emission system. Have your vehicle checked as soon as possible if this displays.
- Coolant Temperature – A red warning light that features a thermometer over two wavy lines is an indicator that your coolant levels are low or the temperature of your coolant is high. You should stop and check coolant levels if this displays. This symbol will also come with an audible warning that sounds three times.
- Automatic Transmission Malfunction – This yellow light that features an exclamation point inside a gear shape is to indicate a malfunction within your automatic transmission. When this displays, have your vehicle’s transmission system checked.
Battery Error – This red light that is shaped like a car battery will indicate a battery charging system failure.
- Parking Brake – There are two parking brake lights that you should be aware of. One is a red light that shows a ‘P’ inside a circle with a line through it, indicating a parking brake error. The other is a red light that features an exclamation point inside a circle. This shows when the parking brake is activated or can be a signal of ABS malfunction or low brake fluid warning.
- Oil Level Low – This yellow light features an oil can with an oil drop over top of a zig-zag line. It indicates that your oil level is low. You should check the oil level and if everything seems to be in order, this can indicate that the oil sensor is in need of service.
