Dashboard Light Colors

There are three different color sets for the dashboard lights in the Volkswagen Tiguan. A red lights indicate that a potentially serious problem may have been detected. You should stop the engine as soon as you can do so safely and call your Volkswagen dealer. A yellow light is slightly less serious, but you should still schedule an appointment to have the vehicle inspected. A blue or green light is used for general vehicle information like an engaged turn signal.

AdBlue® Level Warning

AdBlue® Level Warning: (Tilted bottle pouring liquid) If the light is yellow, then refill the AdBlue® tank. If the tank is full, then this may indicate a malfunction. If the light appears with a wrench symbol, then there is a malfunction or the tank is not filled with standard AdBlue®. If the light is red, then there’s not enough AdBlue® or there has been a system malfunction preventing engine restart.

Automatic Transmission Malfunction

Automatic Transmission Malfunction: (Exclamation mark inside gear) If you see this yellow light, have the system checked immediately by a Volkswagen authorized dealer.

Brake Light Bulb Failure

Brake Light Bulb Failure: (Illuminated bulb inside circle enclosed in parentheses) This yellow dashboard light signals when one or more brake lights in the Volkswagen Tiguan burns out.

Coolant Level Low/Coolant Temperature High

Coolant Level Low/Coolant Temperature High: (Red thermometer floating in liquid) Stop the vehicle and check the coolant level. Be sure to let your engine cool down thoroughly before attempting to remove the reservoir cap.

Daytime Running Lights

Daytime Running Lights: (Green “DRL” lettering) The daytime running lights on. No action necessary.

Electric Parking Brake Warning Light

Electric Parking Brake Warning Light: (Red “P” crossed out inside a circle enclosed by parentheses) There has been an error with the parking brake.

Steering

Steering: (Steering wheel) If you see this symbol, stop the vehicle immediately. If it’s yellow and solid then power steering assist is reduced. Yellow and flashing means a malfunction in the electronic steering column lock has been detected. Red and solid means a power steering assist failure. While red and flashing indicates a malfunction in the electronic steering column lock.
