The 2020 Volkswagen Passat and the Nissan Altima are two of the leading midsize sedans on the market today. That’s why they’re both great options for drivers throughout Irvine, Garden Grove, and San Juan Capistrano, CA.
However, how can you determine which one is the best fit for your wants and needs? To help answer that question, our team at Norm Reeves Volkswagen Superstore Irvine wrote this comparison review of both models. We’ll explore how these cars stack up against each other in four crucial categories: Engine performance, interior room, cargo space, and warranty information. Here we go!
The 2020 Volkswagen Passat comes equipped with serious turbo power thanks to its 2.0L TSI capable of delivering 206 lb-ft of torque. It’s served faultlessly via a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport Mode paddle shifters, allowing drivers extra control around tight bends in the road.
Likewise, the Nissan Altima’s standard trim boasts its own base 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that can reach 180 lb-ft of torque, quite a bit lower than the VW Passat. Paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission, the Altima provides a level, albeit less peppy ride.
The Volkswagen Passat provides your family and friends with plenty of interior room to relax and enjoy the ride. Regardless of whether passengers are seated in the front or the back, the VW Passat offers up to 102 cubic feet of passenger volume compared to the Altima’s 100.8 cubic feet.
In either model, you and your passengers will have no problem stretching out over the open highway, though the 2020 VW Passat does supply a much-welcomed extra bit of headroom of 37.8 inches and legroom of 39.1 inches in the rear seating area. The Altima, however, is comparatively cramped with 36.9 inches of headroom and 35.2 inches of legroom in the rear.
Whether packing up a week’s worth of groceries or loading the family up for a day at the beach, these two sedans provide expansive trunk space to fit your busy life. The Volkswagen provides 15.9 cubic feet while the Altima offers a comparable, though slightly smaller, 15.4 cubic feet.
The VW Passat and Nissan Altima each come with a few driver-assisting technology features to add extra safety to your adventures on the road. Each sedan includes collision warning systems that provide automatic braking to help reduce the severity of a collision or to give you extra time to avoid it altogether.
Additionally, the Volkswagen Passat features the Blind Spot Monitor. This feature can help keep you safe by warning you when objects are approaching your blind spot. The Altima, however, doesn’t include this feature standard, and for additional driver-assisting systems, you’d have to upgrade.
After reading this article, you might prefer to test drive the 2020 Volkswagen Passat over the 2020 Nissan Altima. If that’s the case, we have you covered at Norm Reeves Volkswagen Superstore Irvine.
