2018 Volkswagen Jetta vs Ford Focus
When you want to zip around the Mission Viejo and Newport Beach areas with ease, a sedan is a great choice. Two worthy contenders in the class are the 2018 Volkswagen Jetta and Ford Focus.
To help drivers in the Rancho Santa Margarita area decide which one better suits their needs, Norm Reeves Volkswagen put the two sedans head-to-head in this comparison.
Jetta vs Focus Driver Assist Technology
Both sedans come with several collision mitigation systems that work to prevent crashes before they occur.
Available Blind Spot Monitors and Rear Traffic Alert systems send an audible alert when an object enters the driver’s side and rear blind spots. Systems like these improve safety whether merging on the highway or navigating a busy parking lot.
While they both include cruise control as a standard, only the VW Jetta offers an available Adaptive Cruise Control feature. This automatically adjusts your cruising speed to a safe following distance when approaching a slower-moving vehicle up ahead. The VW Jetta also comes with a Forward Collision Warning system that provides an audible and visual alert if it senses a potential front-end collision with another vehicle. If the driver doesn’t respond in time, this system employs Autonomous Emergency Braking to automatically stop the vehicle.
The Focus doesn’t make these features available, so drivers would have to manually adjust or deactivate their cruise control and are not as protected should they unknowingly approach a stopped vehicle up ahead.
2018 Volkswagen Jetta vs Ford Focus: Engine Specs
If you’re looking for a powerful standard engine, both the Jetta and Focus deliver.
With its standard 2.0L I4 engine, the Focus produces 146 lb-ft of torque. The standard engine in the Jetta, however, outdoes it with the 1.4L 4-cylinder 16V engine. This engine produces 184 lb-ft of torque.
Both sedans make other engines available, but you’d have to upgrade your Focus to achieve what comes standard in the Jetta. This makes the Jetta more desirable for drivers who want power as a standard.
Weather the Elements: Interior Comforts and Convenience Features
Both the Focus and Jetta provide a lot of ways to get comfortable in the cockpit, like hands-free Bluetooth® music streaming and a colorful information display in the driver dashboard.
The Jetta, however, builds some extra comfort and convenience into the design, particularly when it comes to weathering the elements. For example, drivers who want to let that beautiful Cali sunshine in can open the available power tilting/sliding sunroof.
On the other hand, when it rains, the Jetta also includes available rain-sensing wipers that automatically activate when they sense rain on the windshield. The wipers adjust to match the intensity of the precipitation, so you can put more of your attention on driving, and less on reacting to the elements.
The Focus does not offer these kinds of features, so drivers are not as well-equipped in the rain and are not able fill the cabin with as much sunshine when the weather’s nice.
