Just a gentle reminder that Father’s Day will be here soon—Sunday, June 21 to be exact. So to honor the father in your life, we’ve come up with some fun ways to celebrate his special day around the Irvine area.
For a great family outing, Orange County’s aptly named Great Park has a little something for everyone. This huge park boasts several acres of plush green lawns, perfect for tossing the football or enjoying an afternoon picnic.
The weekly farmers’ market is the perfect place to catch some live music, enjoy locally grown fruits and vegetables, or dine from one of the gourmet food trucks.
No visit to Great Park would be complete, however, without a ride on the Great Park Balloon. As one of the largest tethered helium balloons in the US, it provides 25 to 30 passengers with a breathtaking, 360-degree view from 400 feet in the air.
The Orange County Great Park is open from 9 am to 10 pm, with balloon rides offered from 9 am to 3 pm and 7 pm to 10 pm. For more information, check out the Great Park website at www.ocgp.com.
Oak Creek Golf Club
Is your dad a golfer? Then why not dust off the irons and book a tee time at the Oak Creek Golf Club? Located at 1 Golf Drive in Irvine, CA, Oak Creek is surrounded by eucalyptus and citrus trees.
This scenic course is open to the public and offers half-price rates during twilight hours, which is usually about five hours before sundown, depending on the time of year.
Book your tee time now at www.oaktreegolfclub.com.
The Spectrum Center
For a more laid-back Father’s Day, take your dad to the Irvine Spectrum Center. Located at 71 Spectrum Center Drive, you and Dad can grab tickets for Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic World at the Edwards 21 Cinema, where the mind-blowing IMAX 3D Experience will make traditional theaters seem prehistoric.
Is your dad a sports fan? If so, the two of you can watch the Angels play the Athletics while grabbing a drink at the Yard House. They have a huge selection of unique beers, and their signature, foot-high stack of beer-battered onion rings is something you just have to try.
If Dad’s in the mood for something else, though, there’s also a Dave & Buster’s, P.F. Chang’s, Wood Ranch BBQ & Grill, and Cheesecake Factory nearby. Game time is 1:05 pm, so get there early to beat the rush.
Oldies Car Show
If your dad loves cars, especially classic cars, then he’s sure to enjoy the 11th Annual Oldies Car Show & Live Music Festival. Taking place at 330 West Birch Street in nearby Brea, CA, this free festival features tons of classic cars, live music, and a unique beer/wine garden. The event begins at 10 am and runs until 4 pm. Whatever you choose, our entire family here at Norm Reeves Volkswagen Superstore would like to wish all you fathers out there a happy Father’s Day.
And if there’s time, we invite you to swing by our showroom and test drive a few of our newest models, such as the stylish and versatile Volkswagen Touareg.
