If you’re on the edge of your seat waiting for the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan, then join the club. Drivers from across the Mission Viejo, Rancho Santa Margarita, and Newport Beach area have been phoning in to Norm Reeves Volkswagen Superstore in Irvine asking about when this SUV is expected to hit dealerships in the US.
The 2017 VW Tiguan made its big debut in Europe during the Frankfurt International Motor Show last April, but it looks like it might not hit US dealerships until the summer of 2017. However, it’s likely that it won’t vary much from the European version except for the possibility of including a third row, which would make the American version slightly longer.
2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Design
According to Forbes, the 2017 VW Tiguan received a stylish update to both its exterior and interior designs. The exterior of the European version was notably refined from the previous model year, with a longer, lower, and wider frame. The longer wheelbase also helped to improve passenger and cargo room on the inside.
The interior of the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan features a number of updates, including high-quality materials and premium finishes. As mentioned before, it’s anticipated that the US version of the Tiguan may feature third row seating, but until its official release, this has yet to be either confirmed or denied.

2017 Volkswagen Tiguan Performance
When it comes to engine options, all of the European models featured a turbocharged engine, and it’s likely that the US version will come standard with a similar turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The most powerful of the direct-injected gasoline options in the lineup produced up to 217 horsepower. There’s also a possibility that a plug-in hybrid version of the 2017 Tiguan isn’t far behind.
Unfortunately, Volkswagen hasn’t released any official engine specifications for the 2017 model, but judging by the European release, we suspect it will be plenty powerful.
The 2017 VW Tiguan will come with many of the driver-assist and connectivity features that drivers today expect from a modern SUV. For example, you’ll be able to connect your compatible smartphone using car-connected apps like Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. The vehicle also features an active hood, which was designed to provide an additional level of protection for pedestrians and cyclists in the event of a collision.
Here’s how it works: Should the front fender be hit with enough force to indicate a collision has occurred, the rear of the hood will automatically lift about 2 inches in 22 milliseconds. This helps to increase the distance between the hard engine parts and the relatively flexible hood. According the VW officials, this additional space can help reduce the risk of serious head injuries.
Other features include a heads-up display, which brings helpful data to a screen located above the dashboard.
