Power and Performance for 2016
The 2016 Volkswagen Passat features two engine choices: a 1.8-liter TSI® turbocharged four cylinder and a 3.6-liter VR6®. The four-cylinder engine produces 170 horsepower with 184 lb-ft of torque. To further boost fuel economy, this turbocharged engine uses aerodynamic underbody components to reduce drag and a MOSFET rectifier in the alternator that minimizes power loss. This engine comes paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.
Meanwhile, the 3.6-liter VR6® engine generates 280 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. It’s also now compatible with regular gasoline, although for optimal performance, premium fuel is recommended. The transmission system you’ll find mated to the VR6® engine is a six-speed DSG® dual-clutch automatic transmission. This comes with steering wheel–mounted paddle shifters for quick and controlled gear shifting.
